RE: Banks Performance Package

My oldest son was in town today and I gave him a ride for the first time in the dually. He's a car nut and couldn't believe the low end torgue off the line. He said, "It's as fast as my GTO Dad!" Now you need to add a bigger turbo, injectors and a external fuel pump to keep up. Modding is fun. I wish had your Allison.

RE: I hear you knockin' but you can't come in.

While on the subject of guns, I was told that there is no way to travel with a hand gun as each state requires its own license. I was convinced I would have to sell mine before I start out on my cross country next year. True or not? Thanks, Sage Federal law 926A usurps all individual state laws. It says....... "Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console." In other words, you can even travel thru D.C., Chicago or NYC with a handgun if you carry as stated above. If a LEO asks you if you have a gun ask him back if you're being detained. If not, ask if you can leave. Never consent to a search.

RE: Propane for fridge while driving?

My fridge is always using DC while I'm driving. My truck is charging the batteries while I'm moving. I save the propane for the gen or furnace.

RE: Confession Time --- Stupid RV Things We've Done...

My turn. Just a few weeks ago, the DW & I are setting up at our spot at the CG. I'm using the remote to lower the four jacks on the TC to get 'er level. I've got it raised up just about right when the jacks won't raise anymore. What the? I forgot to take off the Fast Guns holding the camper to the truck. It won't raise, it won't lower. The Fast Guns are tighter than a 26" bear trap. With all my might I'm trying to loosen it. At the split second before it releases, my sub-conscious kicks in and tells me I'm about to break all four fingers when it lets go. I didn't actually get fractures, just lost a few milligrams of knuckle meat. I used a stick to break the other ones loose.

RE: what MPG and at what speed?

I also have the 04.5 Dually with a Lance 1181. Fairly heavy. At 55 mph fully loaded I get 14.4 mpg. At 60 mph I get 14.2 mpg. At 61 mph I get 12.6 mpg. Go figure. At 70 mph I get 11.7. My truck seems to like it best around 1750 rpms. I have done quite a few performance mods on the truck however.

RE: Sun-Lite by Keystone

That's a nice camper. The DW & I were looking at the same model but with the fancy sportster package a while back. It sounds like ya'll got it figured out just right. God speed.

RE: Truck camper stability off the truck

I'm having a heck of a time finding the Torklift Wobbl-Stopprs. It seems that TL isn't making them anymore. They've been discontinued according to three different supply houses. I'm not sure what the issue is, but they seem like a good idea.

Much better ride w/the Ranchos

I recently put on the Rancho RS9000XL shocks that I got from Sam's Off Road. They made a really nice difference over the stock shocks. At the nine mark, the truck settled in right away after a bump in the road. Only $250 for the four and another $75 for the install. A nice comfortable mod for $325.

Nice & comfy. We still can't believe all of this is in the bed of the truck. http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/646/53pe3.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9387/dsc01387ts1.jpg

RE: Traveling with firearms..What issues have you had?

Texas has a reciprocity agreement with quite a few states as to having a concelled handgun license. If you're packing in one of those states and get pulled over, you must show your CCL along with your license. Before I head somewhere, I search their firearm laws. You're always protected under federal law by having your weapon seperate from the ammo in a locked box in the trunk as you're passing thru. Other than that, you're taking a chance if you carry (on you or in a vehicle) in a state that's not so agreeable, i.e. MA, CT, CA, etc. You can always have it in a locking briefcase (unlocked) next to you. If you're pulled over, quietly lock the briefcase and slide it on the floor. The LEO can't search it (legally) unless they arrest you first and do a vehicle inventory or get a search warrant.

RE: camper dolly and electric jacks

I don't know who made this dolly, it came with the camper. But it works well enough to hold up and move around a Lance 1181. http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/5161/p1010764uq8.jpg

RE: Dodge - Diesel or Gas?

Just my .02 cents. 04.5 Dodge 3500 w/the 5.9 HO Cummins. I've put about $2500 in performance mods to the truck. Up and down the mountains in Colorado carring the Lance 1181. The big rigs were trying their best to go 15 mph, while I could go the speed I want without much effort. I averaged 13.2 mpg. W/O the TC, I get around 18 city, 23 hwy. And this is a 7600# truck. Almost 8000# with me in it.:)

RE: What alarm system to use?

How do you say "Paranoia?" In this day and age, you betcha I'm paranoid. To be otherwise is foolish. I try to stay in condition yellow all day. It doesn't add any stress to my life. Actually, it's fun to look for the piece of junk and beat them to the punch. Do you think the thousands that are butchered, raped and pillaged in this country everyday think that it would've happened to them? Of course not. There are three types of folks around; wolves, sheep & sheepdogs. I prefer to be the latter. Can you say, "ostrich"? I forgot to mention, that little motion sensor alarm I bought (Safe T) works fine for it's intended purpose. It actually senses body heat. The alert is loud.

RE: Didn't realize the truck was so D$&!&n Long!

That was funny. Thanks for the laugh. I've made two trips this week without the plate. But my Dodge is fast with or without the TC.

RE: How to load on a sideways slant?

Yesterday, I put my TC in my carport for the first time. Same situation, left side about 4 inches higher than the right. It was fairly simple, just took my time. The bed of the truck was also left side high. I played with the jacks (remotes are great) keeping it at the same attitude as the truck. Then eased out, checking the clearances with some help. The fun part was lowering it down to the dolly. That was harder.

RE: What alarm system to use?

You guys have to be kidding. We probably have spent as many nights boondocking as anyone over the last 5 years... 691 nights in our truck camper just on trips alone. We don't have any alarms. Our GMC trucks alarm will go off if we push the key fob emergency button. It's loud and all the outside lights on the truck and camper will be flashing. NO ONE will look or care. It might irratate some one if we woke them up and I'd have to fight them as well as the bad guys. We are careful where we park (boondock). Above all, we are not afraid. My wife isn't afraid because I'm not afraid... and she knows that when I took a vow 45 years ago to love, honor, and protect... that I'll protect her. Just maybe... a better plan might be to choose your parking spots better... or just stay home if you are that insecure. Good luck in all your choices. sleepy Well I'm happy for you Sleepy, knowing you're not chicken $hit and all. Who's talking about afraid or insecurities? I carry more armament then most small third world armies. There's a difference between being prepared versus scared. If you would take the time to bother reading my post, the alarm is for when the TC is parked in the carport or away from the truck. Not when I'm there. Good luck to your Mrs. for having such an awesome husband.

RE: What alarm system to use?

I guess you could enerigize a capacitor, so that they get a jolt when they grab something :B I would love to do that, but my dumb a$$ would forget it's on and I would grab it. What I was looking for was something to deeter the smash and grab idiots while I was away from the TC, whether it was stored or I was just away from it while on the road. When I'm there, security is well in hand. I bought this last night. Nine volt battery powered, motion sensor with a one minute exit delay and instant, five or ten second entry delay. I'll try it and see. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MHFSYJ1BL._SS400_.jpg
